I was born in South London in 1949. After my secondary education I went to Art College in Croydon, where I studied for five years. On leaving in 1971 I began working as an assistant to a London based artist, an association which continues to this day. This job left me time to pursue my own work.

In 1979 I took an art history degree at the Cortauld Institute, while continuing to work part time as an art assistant.

In 1998 I showed a group of landscapes at Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge, mainly developed from photographic sources. After this I continued my involvement with landscape, but drawing more directly from the subject. This gradually led me to rediscover non representational painting, which I had begun to explore at college.

The paintings illustrated on this website are all from 2013 onwards to the present day. I have written a small note on each to explain what I was trying to do, and also in some cases to clarify the titles.
